Getting Started: Crochet
By Judith L Swartz Publisher Interweave Press Edition Hardback Size 204 x 204 mm Illustrations Colour throughout Pages 128
Judith L Swartz learned to knit when she was eight, the same year she aquired Duchess, her first dog - for whom she knitted her first sweater. Swartz's career in textile design includes developing patterns for yarn companies, publishers and private clients, and she also teaches classes and workshops in knitting and crochet. She has designed hats for Smiley Hats and Roffe Skiwear, and created a sweater for Fred 'Mr Rogers' Rogers, commisioned by McDonald's. She lives in Spring Green, Wisconsin.
Want to make the crochet pieces you're seeing everywhere, but don't know how? We designed Getting Started Crochet just for you! Judith L.Swartz comfortably demystifies the technique, the jargon, and the process, easily bringing novices "into the loop." It's all spelled out in pictures and text: you'll begin with a trip to the yarn store for all the necessary tools and to learn how to shop for yarn and equipment. Clear diagrams will address how to hold the hook and yarn and how to form stitches. Next come the basic stitches, one at a time, and your first project...a simple scarf. After you master the stitches you'll learn: Shaping techniques and how to make an evening bag, a simple top, and some fun and funky toys! Working in rounds and working motifs, which lead to more intriguing projects like a Color Study Lap Blanket. Finishing with crochet edgings to sweeten up a tank top and much more.
